How To Build A Pole Shed
Learning how to build a pole shed is another skill that will save you a lot of money in the long run.
Knowing how to build a pole shed will not require you to hire another handyman and it is also a great way for you to burn time (and calories!)A pole shed is a great alternative to a shed. If you are planning to build a large storage place in your yard but your savings are simply not up to it, a pole shed is a great second choice. This type of storage space is excellent as a storage shed or a barn and offers many owners great ways to save money.

When you are learning how to build a pole shed, you will realize that building one does not require you to build the traditional type of foundation that you will normally see in other sheds. A pole shed has a simple foundation where you can follow the steps below:
1. Dig a hole in the ground. Make sure that the hole is deep enough to ensure that your shed is sturdy and durable. The recommended depth of the hole is just below the frost zone which is approximately 600mm. This measurement can vary and depends on where you are and where you want to build your pole shed.
2. Set the poles in the holes. Make sure that you choose sturdy poles with just the right girth. Choose the kind of wood that is durable and is known to withstand rain, heat and snow.
3. Make sure that the poles are aligned. Hold them vertically using temporary props and tools that support the poles to stand upright.
4. Finalize the framework of your pole barn by filling the hole with concrete cement that is approximately 170mm below the ground. The cement will help make the foundation of your poles sturdy and strong.
One of the most distinct features of building a pole shed is the lack of a shed floor. Because you do not have the traditional foundation, you will not have the need for a traditional floor. The pole shed utilizes a dirt floor which is usually made of concrete, crushed stone or timber which you can add later when your budget allows it. With no flooring for your pole shed, you can save a lot of money which you can use to invest in other parts of the shed such as a high quality roof and sturdy walls.
When choosing roof styles for your pole shed, there are many options available. The most common roof styles though are the gambrel roof and the gable roof. The gable roof is the most common roof type that is often seen in houses. In this style, the roof is composed of two flat sections that meet at an angle set against each other.
The gambrel roof on the other hand is the most commonly used style of roof for sheds. In this style, both sides of the roof are added a single flat section. Both these roof types work perfectly with pole shed barns and you can choose either type to finish your barn with.
Knowing how to build a pole shed and having plans is not quite the same thing. I always recommend that you get you hands on good plans, even though you might want your pole shed/barn to be a bit different from the plans.. they are always a good starting point and you can easily adapt the most important bits from a good plan to your knowledge.
